邵逸夫奖官方网站2007年6月12日在宣布,2007年(第四届)邵逸夫奖数学奖由
普林斯顿高等研究所的Robert Langlands教授和哈佛大学的Richard Taylor教授共同获得,获奖因为是“for initiating and developing a grand unifying vision of
mathematics that connects prime numbers with symmetry.”而获奖。他们两人将分享一百万美元的奖金。颁奖典礼将于2007年9月11日在香港举行。
邵逸夫奖于2002 年设立,以表彰在学术及科学研究或应用获得突破成果,和该成果对人类生活产生意义深远影响的科学家。目前在数学科学、天文学、生命科学与医学领域设有3个奖项,每年颁奖一次,每项奖金100万美元。现代微分几何学的奠基者陈省身(S.S.Chern)教授、费马大定理的终结者怀尔斯(A. Wiles)教授分别获得第一、二届邵逸夫数学奖。中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院研究员吴文俊院士和美国布朗大学应用数学系David

Robert Langlands (b. 1936) is currently a
Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) at Princeton.
Born in Canada,
Professor Langlands attended the University of British
Columbia gaining an undergraduate degree in 1957
and the MSc in 1958. In 1960 he received his PhD from
Yale University. He taught at Princeton and Yale before moving to IAS in 1972. He is a
Fellow of the Royal Society of London, the Royal Society of Canada and the US
National Academy of Sciences.
Richard Taylor (b. 1962) is currently
the Herchel Smith Professor of Mathematics at Harvard University, a post he has held since
2002.
Professor Taylor was born in England. He
received his BA from Cambridge
University in 1984 and
his PhD from Princeton University 4 years later. He taught at Cambridge University
from 1989 to 1995 and held the Savilian Chair of Geometry
at Oxford University from 1995 to 1996. He is a
Fellow of the Royal Society of London.
